The Pox Party

Gothic fantasy: Black Sci-fi

My first paid submission! The story follows a teenage girl living during the “pox” (apocalypse) many years in the future. She is forced to question the values of pre-pox society while on a trip to return a hologram-projecting watch she stole from a rich stranger.

It’s part of an anthology produced by Flame Tree Publishing. You can view the announcement here and order a copy here.

The Xenobot Paradox

Guardians of Time: A Collection of time traveling tales

This was one of my first stories accepted for a submission call. It was published in the “Guardians of Time” anthology. The story centers on a woman from a time traveling academy forced to confront an artificial lifeform who may have been tasked with murdering her. It’s influenced by a real-life lab creation called a “Xenobot”—a cluster of stem cells shaped by AI which act like living organisms whose only role in “life” is to perform tasks.

Tourists (Poem)

Stories that need to be told

“Tourists” was my first published piece of work outside of my previous research publications in neuroscience. It is a grief-inspired poem centered around an allegory where minorities live in a literal place of pain due to societal inequities. They are visited by concern-carrying “Tourists” when newsworthy events related to those inequities happen—but afterwards travelers pack their bags and leave.

Purchase “Stories That Need To Be Told 2019” collection here to read “Tourists”.
